About the Collection

The idea for this series started in June 2020 after listening to a sermon by Brian Habig at Downtown Presbyterian, ‘Learning to Lament.’ Although there may not seem like much of a connection by the title, my mind started to ponder all the joys and pains of life, and the connectedness of it all.

These thoughts brought to mind a song, “Carbon Ribs,” by John Mark McMillan. This song is a reminder that even though I am crippled, I have a beautiful seat (that I did nothing to earn) that awaits me one day next to my Father.

Both the paintings and sculptures are twofold. They represent a future seat at the table, one where we are always invited to feast. A seat that promises full restoration and healing. But these chairs also represent the here and now, and the responsibility we have to invite others to our table.

We are here to love one another, to bless and break the bread together, and to give freely of ourselves. What better way than at a table, where we can make room for all.

My hope is that these chairs, every time you look at them, will remind you of your place at the table. How beautiful a worn down floor is when it is under a well used table and chairs.

There is a seat for you at the table, you are always welcome.

**10% of all sales from this series will be donated to Jasmine Road.
